Preparing for El Niño – Tips for Parents
The Fullerton School District is working closely with our Fullerton Police and Fire Departments to ensure that your children will continue to be safe at school, and while traveling to and from there, despite the El Niño rains. Here’s some resources parents can use to prepare for the rain ahead.
Rainy days:
- A RAINY DAY IS NOT A “NO SCHOOL DAY!” Please don’t keep your student home just because it’s raining! Attendance is important – every day counts.
- Allow yourself extra time to get your child to school. Rainy day traffic WILL slow you down.
- Dress your child appropriately for the rain.
Preparing for extreme rain:
- Know where flooding may occur around your home and school and have an alternate route planned
- More information to help you prepare (including lists of emergency supplies):
http://www.redcross.org/prepare/disaster/flood
During extreme rain:
- Avoid walking or driving through flooded areas. Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you down, and 2 feet of water can sweep your car away.
- Keep away from storm channels, creeks, and other running water. Water may rise quickly.
- Your children may have never experienced rain/flooding like this before. Supervise their outdoor activities closely – children are curious and lack judgement about running water.
- NEVER touch downed power lines. CALL 911.
Emergency Information:
- Register with AlertOC to receive emergency information from Orange County Emergency Operations Center http://bos.ocgov.com/alertoc/alertoc.asp
- http://ocstormcenter.com/
- Twitter: @fpdpio , @fullertonsd.org
School Closure:
The Superintendent will only close schools in an extreme emergency.
In the unlikely event of a school closure or schedule change, parents will be notified via the Blackboard Connect phone notification system. Additional announcements/information will be posted at:
District’s web page www.fullertonsd.org

Principal’s Message
Principal’s Message 1/2016
Dear Robert C. Fisler Parents, Students and Staff,
Happy 2016! We began the school week with a downpour of rain. We were able to have our PBIS Kick Off Assembly for grades 1-3, but showed a recorded Keynote of the assembly in classes for all other grades due to the heavy rain. A big thank you to our assistant principal, Tracy Gyurina for taking lead of our new PBIS Point Rewards System. We see students excited about positive behavior and earning points throughout the school day.
Fisler, once again, takes the lead in attendance district-wide at 98.5%. Thank you, Parents for your support with your child’s attendance! We have a SSOAR Saturday on January 23rd. If your child has an absence, please send your child to school on Saturday the 23rd from 8:00-12:15PM to make up a day.
Fisler celebrated the Hour of Code on December 11th. A big thank you to Emily Hancock, 4th grade teacher for organizing the event. Thank you, Parent Volunteers! We hope you had as much fun with coding as the students.
I would like to sincerely thank Mr. Borsari, a Fisler parent, for his assistance with the parking lot traffic in the morning. Thank for volunteering your time in the morning to make a difference with the morning traffic and keeping our students safe.
Wishing you and your family a healthy, happy 2016!

Principal’s Message 12/2015
Dear Robert C. Fisler Parents, Students and Staff,
Happy Holidays! Bullying is defined as “unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time.”(www.stopbullying.com)
One of the toughest, but most effective ways to combat bullying is to report it. When we all stand together against bullying, we can reduce these incidents. Bullying can directly be reported to the school office via email to me or Tracy Gyurina, Assistant Principal. We are here to support the well-being and intellectual growth of all our students.
Did you know about our Suggestion Box? The school Suggestion Box is for suggestions, and it is also a way for students and parent stop report incidents of bullying. It is located in the office on the right hand side when you walk into the building. Office personnel will be happy to direct you to the Suggestion Box.
Best wishes for a warm and rejuvenating winter break. We have much to look forward to in the new year!
Julienne Lee, Principal
Principal’s Message 11/2015
Dear Robert C. Fisler Parents, Students and Staff,
The fall months have quickly arrived! As you take out your sweaters and boots from storage, I hope you are enjoying the crisp cool weather and preparing for flu season.
On October 15th, staff and students at Robert C. Fisler School participated in a large-scale mock disaster drill. The Safety Committee met prior to the drill to review feedback from staff and parents last year. All the emergency preparedness equipment was removed, inventoried, and repacked. Fisler staff met to review their roles and train new teachers in the process. Every year, we increase the difficulty of the drill so that we are prepared to keep students safe and secure. These mock drills help us to practice and refine our procedures. If an emergency should arise, we know that we will be prepared (as best as we can be) to ensure the safety of our students.
On November 14 , our school will have a SSOAR Saturday. Students can make up a missed school day and get credit for attendance. Teacher plan fun lessons from science experiments to art and crafts. Come join the fun!
Congratulations to Amy Farace for winning 2nd Place with her quote submission to the Fullerton Technology Foundation’s Adventures in Wonderland Quote Contest.
Second Place $500:
“Technology is the looking glass through which the wonder of the world is discovered, explored, imagined, created and invented.”
– Amy Farace, Fisler
On November 10th, Kelly Talbot was recognized for Orange County Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist at the Disneyland Hotel. What an honor for Fisler! Congratulations, Mrs. Talbot!
A special thank you to a very devoted parent, Mr. Daryl Bowman. He spends countless hours on Fisler campus volunteering his time to supervise Fisler students and in the library barcoding books. He is a dedicated PTSA Board Member and supports middle school with events such as middle school dances. Not to mention he organizes all our Book Fairs! Thank you, Mr. Bowman! Fisler appreciates you and the time you volunteer in supporting our students.
For any question or concerns, please feel free to contact me via telephone, email or in person.
Happy November!

Dear Robert C. Fisler Parents, Students and Staff,
We are off to a great start this school year! It is a privilege to be a part of an outstanding community of dedicated staff, devoted parents and hard-working students.
Robert C. Fisler School continues to shine as a school of excellence. We have been named a California Businesses for Excellence in Education (CBEE) Honor Roll Recipient for 2014. We received district recognition on September 8th at a Board Meeting. It was an honor to receive the CBEE award on behalf of the school. Additionally, Fisler School has submitted a renewal application to be recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2015-2017. Thank you to the Apple Distinguished School Team (Kim Bass, Tracy Gyurina, Cynthia Rounds, and Kelly Talbot) for their time, effort and creativity in producing an iBook to tell Fisler’s story. It was a memorable experience writing and creating with such innovative leaders.
I’m proud to announce that on August 16th, Phoebe Um, an 8th grader, received 1st place for her photography (6th-8th grade division) at the Festival of the Arts at Laguna Beach. Her photography alongside William Park’s photography, were showcased at the Pageant of the Masters last school year. Congratulations, Phoebe!
